Duncan Taylor Caperdonich 1969 Vintage 50 Year Old & Kinclaith 1969 Vintage 51 Year Old

Independent bottler and blender Duncan Taylor has released two 1969 vintage whiskies from closed distilleries as part of its ‘Rarest of the Rare’ portfolio: Caperdonich 50 Year Old and Kinclaith 51 Year Old.

The Caperdonich distillery first operated for only four years – between 1898 and 1902 – before the distillery was mothballed for approximately six decades. Production would resume again in 1965 and continue until 2002 when the distillery was shuttered, then later demolished in 2010. The Kinclaith distillery was housed within the Strathclyde grain distillery complex and operated between 1957 and 1975, when it was closed and later demolished to make way for an extension being built at Strathclyde.

Ducan Taylor Caperdonich 50 Year Old is described as exhibiting “beautifully malty and sweet” aromas, with notes of “a frothy caramel latte topped with cinnamon” on the palate and “a long-lasting finish of soft gentle warm spices and sweet toasted oak notes.”

Duncan Taylor Kinclaith 51 Year Old is described as having aromas of “fragrant sweet oak,” with “seasonal spices of clove and cinnamon” on the palate, finishing with “beautiful structure with the cask and distillate in perfect harmony.”

Both whiskies are a limited release of less than 100 bottles worldwide and are presented in individually numbered, engraved, handcrafted glass decanters housed in a lockable framed box, inside a brushed stainless steel carry case.

Duncan Taylor Caperdonich 50 Year Old and Kinclaith 51 Year Old carry a suggested retail price of £10,750 and £12,300, respectively, and are currently available by ballot only at therarest.duncantaylor.com.
