Kavalan has announced a collaboration with Japanese contemporary artist Takahide Komatsu on the label design for its latest Mizunara Oak whisky collection.

The collection comprises two single cask strength expressions: one produced from unpeated malt and the other from peated malt. Each bottle features specially commissioned artwork by Takahide Komatsu depicting twelve butterfly species native to Taiwan, reflecting Taiwan’s biodiversity while capturing the grace and vitality of butterflies in flight.

Kavalan Mizunara Oak Single Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky is described as having aromas of “vanilla, fresh coconut, sandalwood, light incense, floral tones, ripe pineapple, mango, and hints of honey and cinnamon.” The palate exhibits “creamy toffee, soft oak, hawthorn, dark chocolate, and caramel sweetness.” It concludes with “citrus peel emerging toward the finish.”

Kavalan Peated Malt Mizunara Oak Single Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky is described as having aromas of “gentle peat smoke, sandalwood, vanilla, dried longan, caramel, and tropical fruits.” The palate exhibits “soft peat that integrates with oriental oak and light spice, peach, propolis and cream, and syrup sweetness.” It concludes with “a smooth, lingering finish.”

The Kavalan Mizunara Oak Single Cask Strength collection is available through Kavalan’s official channels in Taiwan, including the Kavalan Distillery Shop, Kavalan Whisky Shops, Kavalan Whisky Bar, and select local liquor stores. The collection is offered as a Classic Single Bottle Edition and a limited hand-painted Collector’s Double Set featuring labels individually hand-painted and signed by Takahide Komatsu.
