Compass Box Announces Vellichor Limited Edition
Compass Box has announced Vellichor, a limited edition blended Scotch whisky inspired by the experience, emotion, and aroma of old bookshops.
Compass Box Vellichor marries old single malts from The Macallan, Highland Park, and Caol Ila distilleries with parcels of Sherry matured Blended Malt and Blended Scotch Whisky.
The recipe for Compass Box Vellichor follows:
- Macallan single malt matured in a First Fill Bourbon Barrel (12.5%)
- Highland Park single malt matured in a Recharred Hogshead (38.9%)
- Caol Ila single malt matured in a Refill Hogshead (4.1%)
- Blended Malt Parcel matured in a Refill Sherry Butt (29.3%)
- Blended Scotch Parcel matured in a Refill Sherry Butt (15.6%)
Bottled non chill-filtered and of natural color at 44.6% ABV, Compass Box Vellichor is described as having “hints of leather, polished furniture, and the crackling dustiness of decades-old pages” on the nose. The palate is “stacked with sumptuous malty notes, tropical fruit, and Sherry character, with a delicate but persistent peatiness.”
Vellichor is a word used to describe the feeling evoked by the scent of old books and paper. That feeling is represented not just through the whisky, but also by the artwork on the bottle, which has the aesthetic of aged, well-used paper, with shades of brown and yellow that convey the old age of the whiskies used to create the blend.
Compass Box Vellichor is limited to only 3,246 bottles worldwide and carries a suggested retail price of $450.
