Michter’s to Release Toasted Barrel Finish Sour Mash Whiskey in September

Michter's Toasted Barrel Finish Sour Mash Whiskey

Michter’s has announced their US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Sour Mash Whiskey, releasing this September in limited quantities. This will be the first Toasted Barrel release of Michter’s Sour Mash Whiskey, which joins past releases such as Michter’s Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon and Toasted Barrel Finish Rye.

Michter’s US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Sour Mash Whiskey is made by taking fully matured barrels of Michter’s Sour Mash Whiskey and transferring them to toasted barrels for additional aging.

“The toast profile used to finish our Toasted Barrel Sour Mash differs from both the toast profile used for our Toasted Bourbon and the toast profile used for our Toasted Barrel Strength Rye,” said Michter’s Master of Maturation, Andrea Wilson. “A milder toast was chosen to enhance the toffee character of the US*1 Sour Mash and provide a hint of campfire on the finish. After evaluating different degrees of toasting, we selected a level that would provide the toasty profile people enjoy while complementing the elegance of the sour mash whiskey.”

Michter’s Toasted Barrel Finish Sour Mash Whiskey is bottled at 43% ABV (86 proof) and carries a suggested retail price of $60.
