Bruichladdich Launches X4+18 Edition 01

Bruichladdich Distillery has unveiled Bruichladdich X4+18 Edition 01, the world’s first quadruple distilled 18 year old Scotch whisky.
Bruichladdich X4+18 Edition 01 is the first of a four-part series, with each 18 year old expression marrying radical distillation and cask exploration.
The spirit used to craft Bruichladdich X4+18 Edition 01 was distilled in 2006 by former Master Distiller, Jim McEwan MBE. While Bruichladdich spirit is typically distilled twice, this particular spirit was run through the stills four times, reaching a strength of 85% ABV before being laid down in cask. The quadruple distilled spirit spent 18 years maturing in a mix of first fill Bourbon barrels and first fill Rivesaltes casks at the distillery on Islay, before being married and bottled non-chill filtered and coloring free at 63.5% ABV.
Bruichladdich X4+18 Edition 01 is described as having aromas of “dried apricot, sweet mango, toasted oak, muscovado sugar, honeyed pastry, and vanilla fudge.” The palate is “rounded and smooth, with jammy fruit, Christmas cake, Brazil nut depth, and citrus marmalade.” It finishes with “lingering stewed fruits and mellow oak with warming sweetness.”
Bruichladdich X4+18 Edition 01 is presented in Bruichladdich’s Luxury Re/Defined proprietary recycled glass bottle, featuring a vibrant label with four abstract graphic elements that represent the whisky’s journey through the stills.
Bruichladdich X4+18 Edition 01 is limited to 2,400 bottles and is now available for pre-order on bruichladdich.com for £225.
