Johnson Reserve Achieves Guinness World Records Title for The Greatest Variety of Flavours in a Whisky

Whisky maker Johnson Reserve’s newest release, Ascension, has been awarded the Guinness World Records title for The Greatest Variety of Flavours in a Whisky.
To create Johnson Reserve’s Ascension, a single cask of aged single malt was matured through a sequence of 33 unique casks – including a Madeira Barrique, Mezcal Barrels, Rivesaltes Barrique, Marsala Barrique, Ruby Port, Pedro Ximénez, and Armagnac casks – each contributing unique characteristics to the final spirit. The flavor profile of Ascension emerges solely from the interaction between the whisky and its sequence of casks, with no blending taking place. Guinness World Records’ adjudicator confirmed the achievement, recognizing the unique maturation technique.
Official tasting notes for Johnson Reserve Ascension follow:
Nose: Honeyed fig, toasted almond, and warm brioche lead, evolving into notes of cedarwood, vanilla, and a touch of smoky mezcal, creating an inviting, layered aroma.
Palate: Incredibly smooth, with flavours that unfold seamlessly—caramelised pear and butterscotch, giving way to dry oak, dark cocoa, and the earthy touch of agave. Hints of black cherry and fig blend with delicate spices and a touch of sea salt, creating a refined balance.
Finish: A long, lingering finish with notes of sweet tobacco, toasted hazelnut, and soft spice from Mizunara oak. Each layer reveals itself slowly, leaving a graceful impression that remains on the palate.
Johnson Reserve Ascension is limited to only 40 bottles. A ballot will be held for the chance to purchase one of these bottles, with the price available on application. For more information, email members@johnson-reserve.com.
