GlenDronach Releases 50 Year Old Single Malt

The GlenDronach Distillery has announced the release of its first-ever 50 Year Old Single Malt, its oldest and rarest whisky to date.
Distilled in 1971, The GlenDronach 50 Year Old has matured for over five decades in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks from the Spanish bodegas of Jerez in Andalucía. Personally selected by Master Blender Rachel Barrie, these casks have been married for a final maturation in a single Pedro Ximénez cask, before being bottled of natural color at 43.8% ABV.
The GlenDronach 50 Year Old is described as having aromas of “ripe dark cherry, plum, rolling stone fruit, gentian, and a plum of smouldering tobacco, lifted by lilting notes of bramble, orange, and cranberry.” The palate exhibits “dense undertones of dark chocolate, tobacco, and cocoa,” concluding with “a crescendo of elegant plum and luxurious black cherry, enrobed in a swathe of velvet espresso.”
The GlenDronach 50 Year Old is limited to just 198 bottles worldwide and carries a recommended retail price of £20,000.
