Benriach Launches Malting Season First Edition

Benriach Malting Season First Edition

Benriach has announced the launch of Malting Season First Edition, the first expression in a century that will be produced entirely using barley malted from the Benriach distillery’s floor maltings.

Benriach Master Blender Rachel Barrie will carefully select the type of barley and bottling strength for each edition of Malting Season, which will be released annually. The inaugural release is a small batch of 23 bourbon and virgin oak barrels made from concerto barley, all distilled on November 2nd, 2012 and bottled in 2021 at 48.7% ABV.

Benriach Malting Season First Edition is described as exhibiting “a rich aroma of barley sugar, almond fudge and poached orchard apple with smooth, rounded flavours of vanilla and honeyed pear, with a lasting nuttiness of slowly kilned malt.”

Benriach Malting Season First Edition is limited to 6,672 bottles and carries a suggested retail price of £99. It will be rolling out to retailers worldwide in the coming months, with a US release expected in October 2021.
