Orphan Barrel Forager’s Keep Launches June 2019

Since launching in 2014, The Orphan Barrel Whiskey Co. has released Kentucky Bourbon, Tennessee Whiskey, Canadian Whisky and American Whisky under the brand. Now, they’re releasing a 26 year old single malt Scotch whisky from the defunct Pittyvaich distillery. Pittyvaich was located in the Speyside region of Scotland and operated for just 18 years, from 1974 through 1993. The distillery was demolished nearly a decade later in 2002.
Official tasting notes for Forager’s Keep follow:
“Aromas of fruit and freshly cut, crisp red apple give way to a gentle vanilla creaminess sheltering dense, but distant orange peel for a mellow, warming taste with a hint of wood spices and a sweet finish.”
Orphan Barrel Forager’s Keep – Pittyvaich 26 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is bottled at 48% ABV (96 Proof) and launches June 2019. It carries a suggested retail price of $399.

Another overpriced shelf turd.
I beg to differ. This is a very interesting launch — unique, limited offering.
The price is REALLY aggressive considering what $400 can get you from Scotland (or 4x $100, or 2x $200) but this is a more interesting take on the concept than overoaked, left for dead bourbon. Surely Diageo his massive stocks of single malt/ single grain they don’t know what to do with, other than dumping into blends, which is kind of a shame. Considering how many distilleries they have mothballed, there has to be some great juice out there, waiting for a brand to sell under. $399 for a 26y proofed down Speyside, is probably not going to set the world on fire though.
