Michter’s Distillery has announced the first release of Michter’s US*1 Barrel Strength Sour Mash Kentucky Whiskey.

Distilled from a unique grain selection that cannot be categorized as a bourbon or rye, Michter’s US*1 Barrel Strength Sour Mash Kentucky Whiskey was barreled at 103 proof (51.5% ABV) and matured in toasted and fire-charred, new American white oak barrels until it was deemed ready to be batched and bottled. The batches being offered in this 2026 release range in proof from 110.4 (55.2% ABV) to 112.6 (56.3% ABV).

Official tasting notes for Michter’s US*1 Barrel Strength Sour Mash Kentucky Whiskey follow:

This whiskey brings forth all the beauty of our classic sour mash with its enchantingly sweet aromatic entry to the palate, transitioning from subtle to intense notes of cherries, plums, and powdered cocoa, rounding out with a nicely balanced spice that complements the whiskey’s dessert-like honey character.

Michter’s US*1 Barrel Strength Sour Mash will be available beginning in May for a suggested retail price of $120 per 750 mL bottle.
