Bruichladdich has announced the launch of the latest vintage in the Bere Barley series, Bruichladdich Bere Barley 2013.

Bruichladdich Bere Barley 2013 was distilled in 2013 from 100% Bere barley grown by the Agronomy Institute of Orkney College (UHI) and harvested in September 2012. Bere Barley 2013 was matured entirely on Islay in a combination of first-fill bourbon barrels (80%) and second-fill Pauillac wine casks (20%) for 10 years, before being bottled un-chill filtered and coloring free at 50% ABV.

Official tasting notes for Bruichladdich Bere Barley 2013 follow:

Nose: A medley of warm citrus and tropical fruit is immediate on the nose, followed by sweet malty flour. As the whisky opens, the gentle sweetness of the fruit, oak and malted Bere barley combine to give a warm, sunny feel to the single malt, with fragrant peach, vanilla pods, candied orange and lemon, creamy fudge, marzipan, and ripe pears. Over time, delicate floral notes of rose and sweet violet come to the fore.

Palate: Malted grain is unmistakable, with the flavours of popcorn, brown sugar, porridge and Bere husk complementing this cereal forward single malt. The Bere barley provides a soft, velvety texture, with this unctuous mouthfeel working well with the sweet, stoned fruit notes. Ripe peach, apricot, melon and candied orange are balanced with the gentle influence of the oak, with hints of vanilla, coconut and marzipan adding to the depth and complexity of the whisky.

Finish: Beautifully smooth and well rounded, the finish has notes of milk chocolate and Crème brulee, with hints of mango, orange blossom and honey.

Bruichladdich Bere Barley 2013 is available now for a suggested retail price of $139.99.
