Laphroaig has unveiled Elements, a new series that provides a behind the scenes look into Laphroaig’s whisky-making process.

To create the first release in the series – Elements 1.0 – the Laphroaig distillery team brought three experiments together. First, the combination of a cloudy and semi-cloudy wort were used to bring forward more tropical fruit notes, without compromising on Laphroaig’s signature peat. Second, the distillers used both an 8.5-tonne and an 11-tonne mash, combining the past and the present of distillery production norms. Finally, the whisky uses 100% Islay malt.

Presented non-chill filtered and bottled at 58.6% ABV, Laphroaig Elements 1.0 is described as having aromas of “fresh sea salt, smoky bacon, strawberry jam, charred pineapple, and bonfire embers.” The palate is “spicy and peppery with hints of tropical fruit, cloves, and liquorice.” It concludes with a “warming and smoky, sweet, drying, and long peated finish.”

Laphroaig Elements 1.0 is available now at select retailers.
