Highland Park Launches 54 Year Old Single Malt

Highland Park has announced the launch of its oldest and rarest release to date, Highland Park 54 Year Old.
To create Highland Park 54 Year Old, in February 2008 Highland Park’s Master Whisky Maker Gordon Motion selected 4 refill butts and 6 refill hogshead casks originally laid down in 1968. These casks were combined and filled into first fill European Oak ex-Sherry butts for additional maturation before being bottled at 46.9% ABV with no chill filtration and no added color.
Highland Park 54 Year Old is described as “intensely rich, sweet and complex,” with aromas of “exotic lychee, aromatic camphor, vintage oak, and delicate peat.” The palate is “exquisitely balanced” with flavors of “crushed cumin, coriander seeds, summer rose, jasmine, and a hint of honeyed kiwi fruit and pistachio biscotti.” It concludes with a “sweet and spicy” finish with “woody notes giving way to a lingering whisper of sweet fenugreek and heathery peat smoke.”
Highland Park 54 Year Old is limited to just 225 bottles – representing every year of production in Highland Park’s 225 year history – and carries a suggested retail price of £39,000.00. Individuals may register their interest in purchasing a bottle via the Highland Park website.
