Diageo Announces 2022 Release of Mortlach 30 Year Old Midnight Malt
Diageo has announced the 2022 release of Mortlach 30 Year Old Midnight Malt, a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky produced in extremely limited batches and released annually.
Mortlach 30 Year Old Midnight Malt was distilled in six stills 2.81 times – a process used exclusively by Mortlach – and is composed of whiskies matured in Refill American Oak and European Oak that were combined and split to finish in Bordeaux Wine, Calvados, and Guatemalan Rum seasoned casks, before being married in custom quarter casks and bottled at 49.1% ABV.
Mortlach 30 Year Old Midnight Malt is described as having aromas of “baked apple, spice, dark rum, caramelized Demerara sugar, and cocoa powder.” The palate is “full-bodied in character,” with “a sweet burst of apple cobbler followed by fig jam and a gentle clove spice.” It concludes with a “long, sweet and deep-flavored” finish with “a light peppery spiciness.”
The 2022 release of Mortlach 30 Year Old Midnight Malt is limited to only 350 bottles and is available now at a suggested retail price of $4,999.99.
