J.G. Thomson & Co Launches First Collection of Small Batch Spirits
J.G. Thomson & Co, an Edinburgh based spirits brand created by The Artisanal Spirits Company – owners of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society – is launching its first collection of small batch spirits.
J.G. Thomson & Co’s first collection of small batch spirits includes Bold Jamaican Rum, Citrus Dry Gin, Sweet Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, Smoky Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, Rich Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, 23 Year Old Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, and 1972 Blended Grain Scotch Whisky.
J.G. Thomson & Co Batch No. 01: Bold Jamaican Rum
“Bold Jamaican Rum is 100% pot distilled. The classic rum funk is the first thing you will notice when pouring a glass. Fermenting bananas, pineapple, fresh sugarcane, dark molasses and woody spices can be discovered. The flavour of pear drops, grated ginger, baked cardamom, cinnamon buns, fresh finger limes, melted brown sugar and spiced dark chocolate burst over your tastebuds. Matured in ex-bourbon barrels for three years in Jamaica before further maturation in Scotland.” Bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered, of natural color, and without added sugar. RRP: £37.50.

“Distilled in the capital of Scotland, this Batch One Citrus Dry Gin is full of zest. Vibrant lemon, lime, orange peel, grated nutmeg, woody juniper and fresh coriander will fragrance the glass once poured. The tastes of nutmeg, cloves, citric orange, clementine, grapefruit, fresh lemon peel, and a hint of liquorice can all be found in this spirit. “Sweet Blended malt is packed full of delicious flavour. The nose offers a mix of caramel biscuit, fresh vanilla pods and clean coconut. On the taste you can find almonds, toasted hazelnuts, rich fudge, cinnamon custard and liqueur chocolates. What makes this so unique is the cask selection and type. It uses a unique mix of new toasted oak casks, heavy toasted casks with a medium char, and casks that have a heavy char but extra toasting on the cask heads. “Being made from 100% Islay malts, Smoky Blended malt whisky gives you something to chew on. Once the cork is off, you are met with burning ash, baked seaweed, barbecued fruits and a medicinal undertone. Smoked sugar and salt meet smoked meats, rich clove and delicate honeycomb upon drinking. It uses Pedro Ximenez butts and hogsheads for richness and depth and ex-bourbon barrels for sweetness and body. Not too sweet, not too rich, and when you think the smoke is just becoming too much, it brings you right back to start again.” Bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered and of natural color. “Rich Blended malt is a real sherry bomb. The moment you open the bottle you discover the dark raisins, black cherries, juicy sultanas, deep orange peel and toasted cocoa nibs. Tasting the dram, you uncover blackberries, figs, soaked currants, dried dates, dark chocolate orange and hints of nutmeg and cinnamon spice. Oloroso, Pedro Ximenez and American oak casks from Galicia have been carefully selected to create this whisky. “Complex aromas of peach stones, fresh mango, dried strawberries, cranberries, and tropical fruits are ripe on the nose. Once sipped, the flavours of spiced red apples, dark toffee, cake mix, black cherries, redcurrants and a finish of rosewater can be found. “On the nose, this 1972 Blended Grain offers sweet honey, butterscotch, fudge, rum and raisin, sticky toffee pudding, natural wax and dried ginger. Years of maturation have softened, sweetened and deeply characterised this curiosity. Brown sugar, spiced, malted chocolate, bubble gum, rich fruit cake and complex dried fruit mix envelop the tastebuds. This unique blend is made from 100% grain, using vintage distilled components from 1972 before being matured in ex-bourbon barrels.” Bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered and of natural color.
