Found North Launches Batch 001 & 002

Found North, a new independent bottler and blender of Canadian whisky founded by brothers Nick and Zach Taylor, has announced the launch of its first two releases: Batch 001, a 16 year old cask strength Canadian rye whisky, and Batch 002, a 16 year old cask strength Canadian whisky containing an usually high percentage of corn.
Found North Batch 001 is blend of 16 year old rye aged in Hungarian oak, 17 year old rye aged in ex-Speyside scotch casks, and 20 year old double-distilled corn whisky aged in refill and new American white oak, with a final composition of 66% rye, 30% corn, and 4% malted barley. Batch 001 is bottled non chill-filtered and of natural color at 57.1% ABV (114.2 proof) and is limited to 1,327 bottles. Official tasting notes for Batch 001 follow:
Batch 001 is initially defined by the spiciness. The first impression is hot cinnamon and cayenne. The second pass reveals all of the fruit-forward undertones. The third act exhibits all of the wood character – vanilla, caramel and tannin. The finish is lengthy, very warming and surprisingly berry-forward and sweet.
Found North Batch 002 is a blend of 20 year old double distilled corn whisky aged in new American white oak, 17 year old rye aged in ex-wheated bourbon barrels, and 16 year old rye aged in Hungarian oak, with a final composition of 80% corn, 19% rye, and 1% malted barley. Batch 002 is bottled non chill-filtered and of natural color at 64.9% ABV (129.8 proof) and is limited to 1,302 bottles. Official tasting notes for Batch 002 follow:
Batch 002 immediately shows a combination of new wood and bright fruit with butterscotch, burnt sugar and sweet clementine. The pairing of fresh vanilla and minty spice manifests as peppermint ice cream. The longer you sit with it the more the fruit notes take over, showing red apple, rock candy and an enticing orange creamsicle character.
Found North Batch 001 and Batch 002 are launching in Massachusetts this week and nationally in late April at a suggested retail price of $125 and $130, respectively.
