Diageo Unveils Port Ellen Prism for Distillers One of One Auction

Diageo has unveiled Port Ellen Prism, a bottling created exclusively for the third Distillers One of One charity auction.
Distilled in 1978 and bottled at 46 years old, Port Ellen Prism is the oldest Single Malt Scotch Whisky released direct from the distillery to date. Prism was initially matured in refill hogshead casks, before being married into a refill American Oak puncheon for over ten years. Port Ellen Prism is bottled of natural color and at a cask strength of 57.8% ABV.
Official tasting notes for Port Ellen Prism follow:
Delectable fruits mingle with subtle suggestions of savoury spices star anise, clove, and nutmeg; balanced with cinder toffee and vanilla pods. The coastal breeze arrives at the shore and the once smouldering smoke gives way to seaweed, flint and an enigmatic minerality. As the waves roll out to the horizon, soft sea spray floats in the air; allowing a wisp of smouldering smoke and hints of plump berries to linger.
Port Ellen Prism is presented as a singular 1.5 liter bespoke glass decanter encased in a glass sculpture created by artist Wilfried Grootens. The artwork represents Port Ellen’s smoky character, with Grootens meticulously painting multiple individual sheets of glass that form a three-dimensional image which shifts as you move around it. This illusion of floating multidimensional forms symbolises the smoke at the core of Port Ellen whisky.
The Port Ellen Prism lot includes the 1.5 liter decanter, a 10 cL sample, and an invitation to the distillery for the winning bidder and up to three guests for an exclusive experience, including a bespoke ‘Atlas of Smoke’ tour. The lot is estimated to close between £150,000-£300,000.
The 2025 Distillers One of One charity auction will take place on October 10th, 2025. To learn more about and register for the auction, visit the Distillers One of One website.
