Compass Box has announced Brûlée Royale, a limited edition Blended Malt Scotch Whisky inspired by crème brûlée.

Brûlée Royale combines Clynelish, Benrinnes, Speyburn, and Ardbeg single malts matured in American white oak barrels that have been toasted and charred to bestow flavors of crème brûlée.

The recipe for Compass Box Brûlée Royale follows:

Source Cask Type % of Recipe
Benrinnes Distillery (Single Malt) First-fill Bourbon Barrel 53.3%
Clynelish Distillery (Single Malt) Second-fill New American Oak Barrel 39%
Speyburn Distillery (Single Malt) Refill American Oak Hogshead 7.2%
Ardbeg Distillery (Single Malt) Recharred American Oak Barrel 0.5%

Compass Box Brûlée Royale is bottled non chill-filtered and with no added color at 49% ABV. It’s described as having aromas of “crème brûlée, poached pears, and scatterings of freshly opened vanilla pods, opening to custard Danish and scorched sugar brittles.” The palate is “thick with clotted cream, honeyed malt, broiled peaches, followed by a splattering of freshly mixed custard over an expansive and temperately toasted tarte Tatin.” It concludes with “a slight note of pannacotta, followed by silken Jersey milk and gentle nutmeg spice, finished with a whisper of burnt toffee and banana split.”

Limited to 8,556 bottles worldwide, Compass Box Brûlée Royale will be available in the U.S. beginning October 8th now for a suggested retail price of $159.99 for a 700 mL bottle.
