Westland Distillery Releases Batch 2 of Beer Cask Finish & Wine Cask Finish American Single Malt Whiskeys
Westland Distillery has released the second batch of whiskeys in its Cask Exploration Series, featuring Beer Cask Finish and Wine Cask Finish American Single Malts.
Westland Beer Cask Finish Batch No. 2 was distilled from a grain bill featuring Westland’s Signature Five Malt and Washington Pale Malt, fermented with Belgian brewer’s yeast for 96-144 hours. It was originally matured in new American oak, ex-Bourbon, and ex-Rye casks, and finished in stout/porter, brown ale, imperial Munich lager, and foudre ale casks. After a minimum maturation time of 6-9 years, it was batched and bottled at 46% ABV, yielding approximately 12,840 bottles.
Westland Beer Cask Finish Batch No. 2 is described as having aromas of “cantaloupe, grilled corn muffin, sponge cake, and fudge brownie,” and flavors of “malt powder, coffee cake, dried red apple, and orange marmalade.”
Westland Wine Cask Finish Batch No. 2 was distilled from a grain bill featuring Westland’s Signature Five Malt. It was originally matured in first and second fill American oak, and finished in Tempranillo, Washington Red Blend, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot casks. After a minimum maturation time of 5-9 years, it was batched and bottled at 46% ABV, yielding approximately 9,048 bottles.
Westland Wine Cask Finish Batch No. 2 is described as having aromas of “graham cracker, dried strawberry, molasses, and fresh rose,” and flavors of “toasted almonds, cooked plum, cinnamon roll, and dark chocolate.”
Batch No. 2 of Westland Beer Cask Finish and Wine Cask Finish will be available via the Westland website this August and nationwide this September for a suggested retail price of $74.99 for a 700 mL bottle.
