North Carolina’s Oaklore Distilling Co. has announced the release of its limited edition Oaklore Story Series: Port Cask Finish Rye Whiskey.

Crafted by Oaklore at its sister distillery in North Carolina, Oaklore Story Series: Port Cask Finish Rye Whiskey was distilled from a mash bill of 70% rye, 20% corn, and 10% malted barley and initially aged for 6 years in a combination of char #2 and char #3 new, white oak barrels. Once the straight rye whiskey reached peak maturation, it was transferred into port wine barrels for 12-18 months of additional aging. Oaklore Story Series: Port Cask Finish Rye Whiskey is bottled at 92 proof and presented non-chill filtered.

Oaklore Story Series: Port Cask Finish Rye Whiskey is described as having the aroma of “dark cherry and light rye spice that segues into deep brown sugar notes.” The palate exhibits notes of “thick and sweet fermented fruit leaving a residue of light spice on the back of the palate.” The finish “lingers with dark raisin, a touch of herbs, and white pepper.”

Oaklore Story Series: Port Cask Finish Rye Whiskey has a suggested retail price of $99.95 for a 750 mL bottle. A limited quantity of bottles are available for purchase via oakloredistilling.com and at the Charlotte-based tasting room.
