The Glasgow Distillery Launches Trio of Glasgow 1770 Peated Single Malts

Glasgow 1770 Peated Madeira Cask Finish, Peated Islay Cask Finish, and Peated Marsala Wine Cask

The Glasgow Distillery has announced the launch of three new limited edition peated whiskies as part of its Glasgow 1770 Small Batch Series: Glasgow 1770 Islay Cask Finish, Glasgow 1770 Madeira Cask Finish, and Glasgow 1770 Marsala Wine Cask Matured.

Glasgow 1770 Islay Cask Finish (Peated, Batch 1):
Glasgow 1770 Islay Cask Finish was double distilled from malted barley peated to 50ppm and filled into a virgin American white oak cask on May 1, 2018. On April 27, 2022, it was transferred to a refill bourbon hogshead from an Islay distillery for a secondary maturation of two years and three months. On August 20, 2024, it was bottled non-chill filtered and of natural color at 57.3% ABV, yielding 303 700 mL bottles.

Glasgow 1770 Islay Cask Finish is described as having aromas of “sweet honeyed smoke leading to rich butterscotch, tropical fruit, and red apple orchards.” The palate exhibits notes of “golden syrup, bright citrus fruits with fresh ginger sponge cake, and flamed orange peel.” The finish is “thick and long-lasting with notes of sweet cinnamon, freshly planed oak, and a lingering subtle smoke.” RRP £59.

Glasgow 1770 Madeira Cask Finish (Peated, Batch 1):
Glasgow 1770 Madeira Cask Finish was double distilled from malted barley peated to 50ppm and filled into a virgin American white oak cask on March 16, 2018. On August 31, 2022, it was transferred to a refill Madeira hogshead for a finishing period of one year and eleven months. On August 20, 2024, it was bottled non-chill filtered and of natural color at 58% ABV, yielding 298 700 mL bottles.

Glasgow 1770 Madeira Cask Finish is described as having aromas of “sweet smoke, apricot jam, and rolling tobacco with dried apricots and a welcoming sweet earthy spice.” The palate exhibits notes of “crystalized ginger, dark plum, and orange peel alongside barbecued banana and rich honey.” It finishes with notes of “dark chocolate coated raspberries, ground coffee, and a sweet cinnamon spice.” RRP £59.

Glasgow 1770 Marsala Wine Cask Matured (Peated, Batch 1):
Glasgow 1770 Marsala Wine Cask Matured was double distilled from malted barley peated to 50ppm and filled into three Marsala Wine Barriques in August 2017. On September 23, 2024, these casks were married and bottled non-chill filtered and of natural color at a cask strength of 60.2% ABV, yielding 860 700 mL bottles.

Glasgow 1770 Marsala Wine Cask Matured is described as having aromas of “rich toffee, stewed apple, roasted peach, and a touch of salinity leading to sweet honey smoke and raspberry jam.” The palate exhibits notes of “dark fruits and sticky toffee, accompanied by ripe stone fruits and smoky bacon.” It concludes with “salted caramel, blackberries, and tobacco with a drying oak-forward finish and a welcoming hint of white pepper.” RRP £59.
