Westward Whiskey Launches Milestone Edition No. 2
Westward Whiskey has announced the release of Westward Whiskey Milestone Edition No. 2 – A Discovery of Spice, the second release in it’s limited edition, annual series which will evolve and change with each year.
Created to commemorate the distillery’s 20th anniversary and to showcase two decades of whiskey knowledge, Westward Whiskey has drawn from Old World winemaking, distilling, and maturation traditions and applied them to American Whiskey making.
Westward Whiskey Milestone is crafted from a 21 barrel Solera system that includes some of their oldest and most precious whiskeys and a long, slow proofing process. The company will draw off a small fraction of this whiskey for each annual release, replacing it with something unique from the barrel house. This fractional blending and meticulous proofing process will continue year after year.
For Milestone Edition No. 2, Master Blender Miles Munroe was inspired by a visit to Taiwan to take the distillery’s signature spice notes to unparalleled heights by incorporating new, exotic woods to amplify the characteristics from their cask finishes – including Stout, Pinot Noir, and Rum.
Bottled at 48.5% ABV (97 proof), Westward Whiskey Milestone Edition No. 2 is described as having aromas of “honeysuckle, dried cherry, mocha and rich raisin, and toasted almond.” The palate exhibits notes of “peach streusel, rum raisin, coconut flake, and apple pie.” It concludes with “fig jam, vanilla bean, stewed orchard fruit, and cinnamon roll” on the finish.
Westward Whiskey Milestone Edition No. 2 is packaged in a new custom glass bottle designed to reflect the company’s Northwest Heritage and echo the landscape of its hot, dry, and rugged terrain. The bottle features a weighted cork closure sculpted with the company’s iconic blackbird. Each bottle is individually numbered and presented in a gift box inspired by the company’s Northwest heritage.
