Hotaling & Co. has announced two new limited expressions in the Hirsch portfolio: the third edition of The Single Barrel Double Oak and the fourth edition of The Single Barrel Silver.

Both expressions are Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskeys aged in Bardstown, Kentucky. Only 21 barrels of The Single Barrel Double Oak and 42 barrels of The Single Barrel Silver will be released.

Hirsch The Single Barrel Double Oak is bottled with two different age statements: a 10 year old and a 9 year 8 month old. Both whiskies are distilled from a 72% corn, 13% rye, and 15% malted barley mash bill, have a proof range of 110-115, and are initially aged for eight years in 12 month air-dried new American oak barrels with a char #3. Nineteen of the barrels are finished for two years in new custom American Oak barrels with a char #1. The remaining two barrels are aged one year and eight months in the same new custom American Oak barrels with a char #1. To allow for a softer secondary aging process, the proof was lowered before going into the second barrel.

Hirsch The Single Barrel Double Oak is described as having aromas of “maple-vanilla with layers of caramel, fig, tobacco, and a soft oak presence.” The palate exhibits flavors of “leather, baking spice, vanilla, and caramel.”

Hirsch The Single Barrel Silver is bottled with two different mash bills and age statements. Both mash bills were aged in 12 month air-dried new American oak barrels and have a proof range of 105-126. Mash bill 1 is 72% corn, 13% rye, and 15% malted barley and aged 6 years and 4 months. Mash bill 2 is 78% corn, 10% rye, and 12% malted barley and aged 6 years and 8 months.

Hirsch The Single Barrel Silver mash bill 1 is described as having aromas of “caramel, toffee, allspice, and oak,” flavors of “honey, hot cinnamon, and corn sweetness,” and a “soft finish.”

Hirsch The Single Barrel Silver mash bill 2 is described as having aromas of “buttered cornbread, maple, and burnt oak,” and flavors of “fresh cinnamon sugar, toasted marshmallow, pear, cherry, and dusty grain.”

Hirsch The Single Barrel Double Oak ($135 SRP) and The Single Barrel Silver ($90 SRP) are now available in AK, AL, CA, CT, DC, GA, MA, MI, MN, MO, NJ, NV, NY, RI, SC, TX, and WI.
