Westward Whiskey has announced its first Whiskey Club release of 2024: Westward Whiskey Vienna Malt, an American Single Malt produced from Vienna Malt instead of Westward’s standard two-row.

Westward Whiskey Vienna Malt was the result of a ‘happy accident’ following an erroneous delivery of barley. When Westward’s grain supplier accidentally delivered two-row Vienna malted barley instead of their standard two-row pale, Westward’s team of brewers-turned-distillers decided to roll with the punches and venture forward. Westward Whiskey Vienna Malt was distilled in May 2019, aged in new American Oak barrels (a mix of #2 and #3 charred, 53-gallons), and bottled at 45% ABV in January 2024.

Westward Whiskey Vienna Malt is described as having aromas of “maple candies, banana bread, orchard fruit, and light floral notes.” The palate exhibits “rich honey depth, coconut macaroon, and banana pudding.” It finishes with “Danish butter cookie, toasted nuts, and sponge cake, with mint and oak lingering.”

Westward Whiskey Vienna Malt is priced at $99.95 for a 750 mL bottle and is now available for purchase exclusively for Westward Whiskey Club members.
