BHAKTA Spirits has announced the launch of its inaugural rye vintage, BHAKTA 2013 Straight Rye Whiskey, marking WhistlePig Whiskey Founder Raj Peter Bhakta’s return to rye.

Distilled in 2013 from a 95% rye/5% malted barley mash bill by MGP of Indiana, BHAKTA 2013 Straight Rye Whiskey was initially matured for over a decade, then finished in Calvados casks for 75 days, before being proofed to 107.6 (53.8% ABV) and bottled at 10 years, 8 months old.

BHAKTA 2013 Straight Rye Whiskey is described as “golden orange” in color, with aromas of “vanilla, caramel, apple pie, and citrus.” The palate is “silky” with a “spicy attack of pepper and nutmeg.” It concludes with a “dry” finish of “mellow oak and rancio.”

Limited to 4,800 bottles, BHAKTA 2013 Straight Rye Whiskey has a suggested retail price of $149 and is now available at retailers in select states and online at bhaktaspirits.com.
