Johnnie Walker Announces Blue Label Elusive Umami
Johnnie Walker has announced the launch of a new limited edition Blended Scotch Whisky: Johnnie Walker Blue Label Elusive Umami.
Crafted by Johnnie Walker Master Blender, Dr. Emma Walker and world-renowned Japanese Chef, Kei Kobayashi, Johnnie Walker Blue Label Elusive Umami seeks to capture the elusive taste of umami, a Japanese word used to identify the ‘fifth taste.’
To create the blend, select casks from inland and coastal distilleries were hand-picked at the height of their maturation for their unique umami profile. Johnnie Walker states that only one in 25,000 casks succeeds in bringing this elusive character to life.
Official tasting notes for Johnnie Walker Blue Label Elusive Umami follow:
Nose: Sweet and savory, fresh green and red apples, confectionary sweetness, hints of cashew nut, notes of salt brine and savory accentuated without losing freshness. Very nice aromatic persistence.
Palate: To taste, apple and white peach touch the senses first. A beautifully balanced scotch of sweet and savory flavors, with notes of blood oranges and red berries, a touch of smoked meat, warming salt and pepper with a long, sweet fruit finish.
Finish: The liquid has a long, sweet fruit finish of sweet wood spice.
Johnnie Walker Blue Label Elusive Umami is bottled at 43% ABV and carries a suggested retail price of $400 for a 750 mL bottle. It will first be available at Johnnie Walker Princes Street in Edinburgh, Scotland on September 18, 2023, before rolling out to the rest of the world on October 16, 2023.
