Buffalo Trace Distillery Releases Experimental Peated Bourbon

Buffalo Trace Distillery has announced the latest release in the Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection: Peated Bourbon.
The Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection explores how different mash bills, types of wood, barrel toasts, and environmental influences play a role in the flavor profiles of whiskey. The Experimental Peated Bourbon is the product of 6 barrels of Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey that were distilled with smoked peated malt as a flavoring grain instead of traditional barley, lending just a hint of smoke to the rye bourbon mash bill. After aging for 9 years and 5 months in new charred white oak casks, the barrels were bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof).
Buffalo Trace Experimental Peated Bourbon is described as “smoky and nutty” on the nose, with hints of “leather, mahogany, and cacao beans.” The peated malt contributes notes of “light smoke and brown butter” on the palate, concluding with a “sweet toffee finish.”
Buffalo Trace Experimental Peated Bourbon will be available in highly limited quantities beginning May 2023 and carries a suggested retail price of $46.99 for a 375 mL bottle.
