Compass Box Announces Experimental Grain Whisky Limited Edition

Compass Box has announced Experimental Grain Whisky, a limited edition blended grain Scotch whisky that “blurs Scotch whisky boundaries” and was created to be the alter ego to Compass Box Hedonism.
Compass Box Experimental Grain Whisky is created with a parcel of grain whisky that’s sourced from Loch Lomond Distillery and made from 100% peated malted barley. Despite this parcel being 100% malt, because it’s produced in a column still rather than a pot still, Scotch whisky conventions require it to be classified as grain whisky. In addition, Experimental Grain Whisky contains conventionally made grain whiskies from North British and Cameronbridge, as well as a parcel of Hedonism Blended Grain.
The recipe for Compass Box Experimental Grain Whisky follows:
- Loch Lomond single grain matured in a Second Fill Bourbon Barrel (31%)
- North British single grain matured in a Recharred American Oak Barrel (36.7%)
- Cameronbridge single grain matured in a Recharred American Oak Hogshead (14.5%)
- Hedonism Blended Grain matured in a Second Fill Bourbon Barrel (17.8%)
Bottled non chill-filtered and of natural color at 46% ABV, Compass Box Experimental Grain Whisky is described as having aromas of “banana, toffee, savory barbecue smokiness, and hints of rum and raspberry.” The palate is “oily” with notes of “almond, vanilla, and burnt pine cones.”
Compass Box Experimental Grain Whisky is limited to only 6,142 bottles worldwide and carries a suggested retail price of $150.
