The Macallan Unveils Harmony Collection Rich Cacao
The Macallan has unveiled The Harmony Collection Rich Cacao, the first limited edition whisky in a new series of single malts that will explore the world of sustainable packaging.
The Macallan Harmony Collection Rich Cacao brings together the world of whisky with the world of chocolate. After traveling to Spain and meeting with master chocolatiers, The Macallan Whisky Maker Polly Logan sought to create a single malt whisky with a deep, dark chocolate profile that would pair perfectly with the richest chocolate. Polly achieved this by combining The Macallan’s traditional sherry seasoned European oak casks with sherry seasoned American oak casks.
The Macallan Harmony Collection Rich Cacao is described as having the color of “toasted cacao beans” and aromas of “chocolate fondant, honey, oak, zesty lime, and ginger”. On the palate, notes of “dark chocolate, honey, dates, vanilla, and cinnamon”, finishing “long with rich chocolate.
The Macallan Harmony Collection Rich Cacao is bottled at 44% ABV and encased in a fully recyclable and biodegradable box made using natural by-products in the chocolate-making process, such as discarded husks from cacao pods.
The Macallan Harmony Collection Rich Cacao will be available globally beginning October 2021 and carries a suggested retail price of $160. Additionally, The Macallan has collaborated with luxury gourmet chocolate brand Compartés Chocolate to create a whisky and chocolate pairing tasting set. Only 200 of these sets will be available and each includes a bottle of The Macallan Harmony Collection Rich Cacao, a 10-piece box of custom-made chocolate from Compartés Chocolate, a pairing guide, and two The Macallan branded glencairn glasses. The Macallan Harmony Collection: Rich Cacao & Compartés Chocolate Tasting Set will be available for pre-order beginning November 8, 2021 exclusively via ReserveBar.
