Glenglassaugh Unveils 50 Year Old Single Malt Scotch

The Glenglassaugh Distillery has announced the release of one of its oldest and rarest expressions, Glenglassaugh 50 Year Old.
Glenglassaugh 50 Year Old has been bottled from a single Pedro Ximénez sherry cask from Andalucīa in Spain after maturing in the distillery’s coastal warehouses for over half a century.
Official tasting notes describe the nose as “deep” and “seductive” with “layers of sweet almond frangipane, figs and blackberry, carried on a wave of ocean spice, toasted oak and salted honeycomb.” The palate is “a complex symphony of cassis and soft exotic fruits with rolling waves of papaya, mango and cherry” as well as “mellow oak and yellow plum.” The finish is “soft” and “lingering” with notes of “caramelized pear, pineapple and pomegranate, beautifully intertwined with almond and refined oak; on a gentle ocean breeze.”
Glenglassaugh 50 Year Old is bottled at 40.1% ABV and housed in a bespoke presentation box designed to display the bottle and the spirit’s natural cask derived color. The initial release of Glenglassaugh 50 Year Old is limited to 264 bottles and is available now in select international markets in Europe and Asia at a suggested retail price of £5,500 (~$7,605).
