Irish Distillers Launches Method And Madness Mulberry Wood

Method And Madness Mulberry Wood

Irish Distillers has announced the launch of Method And Madness Mulberry Wood, a limited edition single pot still Irish whiskey finished in virgin Mulberry Wood casks – the first Irish whiskey to use Mulberry Wood.

To create Method And Madness Mulberry Wood, Irish Distillers sourced White Mulberry Wood from central Hungary, where the wood was harvested and air-dried for two years at the Kádár sawmills in Tokaj before being transferred to a cooperage in Budapest. Irish Distillers claims “the relatively high porosity and medium toasting of the exceptional Mulberry Wood casks impart elevated flavors of wood spices and enhanced toffee sweetness, along with a natural golden hue to the whiskey.”

Initially matured in a combination of first fill and re-fill American Oak barrels, then finished in 50-litre Mulberry Wood casks for between three and eight months, Method And Madness Mulberry Wood is bottled at 46% ABV and described as “wonderfully complex with notes of smoked paprika, flavors of sweet toffee apple, and a freshly cut wood character imparted from the virgin Mulberry Wood.”

Method And Madness Mulberry Wood is available for purchase now and carries a suggested retail price of €95 (~$112).
