Old Forester Launches The 117 Series With High Angels’ Share Bourbon

Old Forester has announced The 117 Series, a limited edition line of whiskies created to explore and showcase the effects of experimenting with mash and yeast strains, barrel manipulation, maturation environments, and more. The name of the series pays homage to the location of Old Forester’s home along Whiskey Row on Main Street in Louisville, where they currently operate a fully-functioning distillery and tour experience.
The 117 Series is being directed by Old Forester Master Taster Jackie Zykan, and its label will bear her name, making it the first bottle in the brand’s history to feature a woman’s signature. In creating the inaugural release, The 117 Series: High Angels’ Share, Jackie has chosen to showcase the effects of evaporation on flavor through a selection of low-yield barrels that lost significant volume to evaporation (the Angels’ Share) during the aging process.
Old Forester The 117 Series: High Angels’ Share is bottled at 110 proof (55% ABV) and described as having aromas of “rich caramel, toasted coconut, dried cranberry, and dark brown sugar amongst a background of intense oak spice.” The palate is “full bodied” and opens with notes of “molasses and dense dessert elements” followed by “anise and celery seed.” It finishes with “roaring spice, roasted coffee and black pepper.”
The 117 Series releases will be sold via the retail shop at Old Forester Distilling Co. and in limited quantities at select Kentucky retailers at a suggested retail price of $49.99 for a 375 mL bottle. The 117 Series: High Angels’ Share release will go on sale to the public on Wednesday, March 24th.

The flavor profile sounds like the Single Barrel “Cherry Picker” that I got 3-4-2020. Just before the world went crazy. I should have bought 4 bottles. Absolutely delicious.
