Dewar’s Announces Caribbean Smooth Rum Cask Finish
Dewar’s has announced Caribbean Smooth, an 8 year old blended Scotch whisky finished in Caribbean rum casks.
Caribbean Smooth is the first expression in a new line of cask-finished whiskies that Dewar’s will be rolling out over the next few years. Earlier this year, the SWA (Scotch Whisky Association) amended their rules to broaden the types of casks that can be used to mature Scotch whisky, and Dewar’s has hinted that they’re experimenting with these new casks. Perhaps we’ll see Tequila, Mezcal, and Calvados finished expressions from Dewar’s in the near future?
Caribbean Smooth is described as having “subtle notes of apple, caramel, and biscuity cereal that slips into dark brown sugar and tropical fruit.”
Dewar’s Caribbean Smooth launches on October 1st and carries a suggested retail price of $21.99 for a 750 mL bottle.
