WhistlePig has announced The Boss Hog XI: The Juggernaut, a single barrel, barrel strength, straight Rye whiskey aged in new American oak and finished in Thandai barrels.

After encountering Thandai, an aromatic Indian drink created from nuts and spices, during the Holi festival in Jaipur, WhistlePig’s experimental team sought to create the world’s first Thandai whiskey barrels. To do so, WhistlePig’s team seasoned barrels with a marriage of aged Rye, saffron, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, fennel, poppy, and black peppercorn. Following extended aging in new American oak barrels, each single barrel of The Boss Hog XI was finished in these experimental Thandai barrels.

Due to the variable nature of single barrel products, bottles of The Boss Hog XI: The Juggernaut will vary from 103.8–105.2 proof (51.9-52.6% ABV).

WhistlePig The Boss Hog XI: The Juggernaut is described as having the aroma of “a medley of traditional Indian spices, with cardamom joining the Rye’s natural allspice, clove, and black pepper aromatics.” On the palate, “the structured spice profile is balanced by playful over-ripe orchard fruit before cardamom, saffron, and fennel take center stage.” It finishes with “waves of baking spice notes giving way to the soft sweetness of tropical fruit.”

WhistlePig The Boss Hog XI: The Juggernaut is now available at retailers nationwide and online at whistlepigwhiskey.com for a suggested retail price of $599.99 for a 750 mL bottle.
