Sespe Creek Distillery has announced that John Campbell will join the Oxnard, California distillery as Chief Operating Officer and Master Distiller.

Campbell brings with him three decades of experience in the Scotch industry. His longest stint was at Laphroaig, where he spent 27 years – nearly 16 of which were as Distillery Manager. More recently, Campbell spent three years as Master Distiller at Lochlea Distillery. Campbell’s new role at Sespe Creek will mark his first foray into American craft spirits.

As incoming Chief Operating Officer, Campbell will spearhead Sespe Creek’s portfolio of spirits, which includes Warbringer Mesquite Smoked Southwest Bourbon, Parlor Cay Rum, and Silvergrin Vodka.

Campbell will officially step into his new role at Sespe Creek in October.

    That seems odd??

There had been rumors that he wanted to get involved in American whiskey, so I’m not surprised by the career change. What I am surprised by is the decision to join Sespe Creek rather than a craft distillery with a greater focus on whiskey. It’ll be interesting to see what comes of all this.
