Mount Gay Unveils Second Edition of Single Estate Series

Mount Gay has unveiled the second expression in its limited-edition Single Estate Series: 24_02_Vt18d2.
In 2015, Mount Gay acquired 324 acres of the historical Mount Gay and Oxford Estates, and for the first time in centuries, the distillery was a vertically integrated operation from cane to bottle. Since then, the team has harvested Estate sugar canes each year and transformed them into molasses, before fermenting, distilling, and aging the distillates at the distillery.
The Single Estate Series is created using 100% molasses from sugar canes grown at the Mount Gay Estate in St Lucy, Barbados. The molasses is fermented for an unusually long nine days, which Mount Gay claims reveals distinct flavors with specific Barbadian (local) notes.
Crafted by Master Blender Trudiann Branker from a blend of rums produced from the 2018 Mount Gay Estate sugar cane harvest – making it the first vintage in the series – Mount Gay Single Estate Series 24_02_Vt18d2 has been fully distilled in copper pot stills and matured in American oak (Quercus Alba) ex-bourbon barrels, and is presented at 55% ABV, non-chill filtered, and with no coloring added.
Mount Gay Single Estate Series: 24_02_Vt18d2 is described as having aromas of “bold citrus, sweet fruit, grapefruit, sweet plums, banana, almonds, sea salt, and milk chocolate,” and flavors of “brown sugar, oak, grapefruit, floral notes, and salty smokiness.”
Mount Gay Single Estate Series: 24_02_Vt18d2 is presented in eco-friendly packaging, with 70% recycled glass bottles and minimal ink on the Caribbean blue label inspired by the Bajan summer skies visible during the Summer 2018 harvest. Each bottle features a QR code that can be scanned to learn about the rum-making process from start to finish.
Mount Gay Single Estate Series: 24_02_Vt18d2 is limited to 5,418 bottles worldwide (1,200 available in the US) and carries a recommended retail price of $400 for a 70 cL bottle.
