Catador Itinerante, a new independent bottler specializing in world whiskies, has launched its first two single cask releases in the U.S.

Catador Itinerante Edition 01 and Edition 02 are single malt whiskies from the Austrian distillery Broger, located in Klaus. These releases mark the first time that Broger products have found their way into the United States.

Catador Itinerante Edition 01 was distilled from unpeated malt at Broger in 2010 and spent four years in Virgin Limousin French Oak, followed by an additional, unusually long nine years in a Madeira cask. It was bottled in 2024 at 13 years old and is presented non-chill filtered, with no color added, at a cask strength of 62.1% ABV. Limited to 576 bottles.

Catador Itinerante Edition 01 is described as having aromas of “raisins, dried figs, tiramisú, flan, a creamy dessert, curry leaves, fenugreek, licorice, and lit match.” The palate exhibits flavors of “chocolate covered oranges, sticky ginger cake, butter, sultanas, sunflower seeds, and layered dark fruits.” It finishes “long and chocolatey with raisins, brown sugar, and spice.”

Catador Itinerante Edition 02 was distilled from beech wood smoked barley at Broger in 2013 and fully matured in an Oloroso Sherry cask. It was bottled in 2024 at 10 years old and is presented non-chill filtered, with no color added, at a cask strength of 71.6% ABV. Limited to 442 bottles.

Catador Itinerante Edition 02 is described as having aromas of “toffee, cherries, sandalwood, incense, hints of clove, cough syrup, lollypop, smoke, minerality, and fresh grass.” The palate exhibits flavors of “spices, licorice, salted caramel, stewed apples, and panettone (Italian sweet bread).” The finish is “long with stewed fruits, fresh green leaves, driftwood, and sweet and floral notes.”

Catador Itinerante Edition 01 and Edition 02 are presented in 375 mL bottles with a suggested retail price of $69.99 each. Both editions are available at select retailers in Massachusetts and New York, with plans to expand to more states in the future. The whiskies are also available through Catador Itinerante’s website with shipping to additional states.
