Penelope Bourbon Re-Releases Tokaji Cask Finish Rye
Penelope Bourbon has announced the return of Tokaji Cask Finish, a limited edition straight rye whiskey finished in Tokaji (sweet Hungarian wine) casks.
The first release of Tokaji Cask Finish used a 6 year old straight rye whiskey as the base. The new release uses an 8 year old rye base distilled in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, from a 95% rye and 5% malted barley mash bill.
Bottled at 106 proof (53% ABV), Tokaji Cask Finish is described as having aromas of “dark chocolate-covered raisins and almond pastry.” The palate is “viscous” with notes of “sweet honey and caramel with hints of orange zest,” concluding with “a savory finish highlighted by notes of black cherry, tobacco and red wine.”
Penelope Tokaji Cask Finish is limited to 11,400 bottles and will be available beginning this month at a suggested retail price of $89.99 per 750 mL bottle.
