Buffalo Trace Releases Old Charter Oak Spanish Oak

Old Charter Oak Spanish Oak

Buffalo Trace Distillery has released the latest installment in the Old Charter Oak Series, Spanish Oak. The series was launched in late 2018 with the intention of exploring oak tree varietals and their impact on spirit, using barrels obtained from trees grown in different countries, climates, and soil.

For this release, Buffalo Trace aged its Mash Bill #1 – the same mash bill used to make Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, and several other bourbons at the distillery – in barrels created from outdoor seasoned Spanish oak staves that were harvested and created from the forests of northern Spain.

Old Charter Spanish Oak is described as having tasting notes of “deep oak and dense caramel, followed by rich vanilla and an abundance of dark stone fruit, finishing with notes of toasted nuts and baking spice.”

Bottled at 46% ABV (92 proof), Old Charter Oak Spanish Oak carries a suggested retail price of $69.99 and will be available in select markets in the United States beginning this month.
