Old Forester Launches The 117 Series Extra Extra Old
Old Forester has announced The 117 Series: Extra Extra Old, the latest expression in a limited edition line of whiskies created to explore and showcase the effects of experimenting with mash and yeast strains, barrel manipulation, maturation environments, and more.
Old Forester The 117 Series: Extra Extra Old is a double barreled bourbon aged in a second, heavily charred barrel. It’s created from the same base spirit as Old Forester 1910 Old Fine Whisky, but spends extra time in the secondary barrel – 24 months instead of 6-9 months – hence the name “Extra Extra Old.”
Old Forester The 117 Series: Extra Extra Old is bottled at 93 proof (46.5% ABV) and described as having aromas of “roasted coffee, rich maple syrup, dark chocolate, caramel, and hints of toasted coconut, fruit, and a smokey char foundation.” The palate has notes of “rich mocha coffee with hints of brandy and dark cherry fruit.” It concludes with “smooth, creamy chocolate coffee notes” that “fade quickly” on the finish.
Old Forester The 117 Series: Extra Extra Old is available now in limited quantities via the Old Forester Distilling Co. retail shop, select Kentucky retailers, and the Old Forester online shop in select states. The 117 Series: Extra Extra Old carries a suggested retail price of $59.99 for a 375 mL bottle.
