Found North Launches Batch 005 & 006
Found North has announced the launch of its latest Canadian whiskies, Batch 005 and Batch 006.
Found North Batch 005 is a blend of 21 year old corn whisky aged in ex-bourbon and then transferred into new American oak for eight plus years, blended with 8 year old wheat whisky aged exclusively in new American oak. Batch 005 has a final grain composition of 73% Corn and 27% Wheat and is bottled non chill-filtered, with no additives, and of natural color at a cask strength of 58.1% ABV (116.2 proof) and is limited to 2,071 bottles. The nose on Batch 005 is like stepping in from the cold into a warm french bakery, presenting the sweet, nutty aroma of freshly caramelized dark golden brown sugar. There is the lovely creamy tang of Irish butter, mingled with peppermint and sliced pear drizzled with honey. The palate is lively, dancing from buttercream to rock candy to graham cracker. The finish is long and lingering, presenting a gentle blend of crispy nutmeg and earth tones of tobacco, mint and a pine needle forest bed.
Found North Batch 006 is a blend of 21 year old corn whisky aged in new American white oak, 26 year old corn whisky aged in Hungarian oak, 17 year old corn whisky aged in ex-bourbon barrels, 18 year old rye whisky aged in Hungarian oak, and 19 year old rye whisky aged in rechar American oak. Batch 006 has a final grain composition of 87% Corn, 12% Rye, and 1% Malted Barley and is bottled non chill-filtered, with no additives, and of natural color at a cask strength of 64.1% ABV (128.2 proof) and is limited to 3,512 bottles. The nose pops out of the glass with rich maple syrup, caramelized red apple and worked leather. Batch 006 rolls across the palate like a river of molten lava made of treacle, honey and molasses. The finish lingers like a grizzly bear’s last pancake breakfast before hibernating through an arctic winter, presenting layer after layer of warm butterscotch syrup, sugared strawberries, figs, a hint of nutmeg and dark chocolate truffle power. Underneath the weight of all this whisky a few drops of water reveals cantaloupe, chestnuts, rose water, rich vanilla and the wonderful reminder that winter is not that bad if you have the right whisky.
