WhistlePig Announces PiggyBack Legends Series: Big Papi Barrel
WhistlePig has announced the PiggyBack Legends Series, a limited edition single barrel series that “celebrates living legends who give 100% in the name of greatness.”
The first release in the WhistlePig PiggyBack Legends Series is the Big Papi Barrel, created for and selected by former professional baseball player and Boston Red Sox legend “Big Papi” David Ortiz. This PiggyBack 100% Rye Whiskey is aged six years in American Oak and finished in barrels containing Ortiz’s signature DO34 maple wood bats, making it the world’s first baseball bat-finished whiskey.
Tasting notes will vary from bottle to bottle due to the nature of single barrel products, but the PiggyBack Legends Series: Big Papi Barrel is described as having aromas of “fresh cinnamon and caramel sweetness,” with notes of “powerful spice, dark chocolate, and maple syrup” on the palate, concluding with a “lengthy” finish “full of vanilla and caramel notes.”
