Irish Distillers Launches Jameson 21 Years Limited Edition

Jameson 21 Years

Irish Distillers has announced Jameson 21 Years, a limited edition blend of single pot still and single grain Irish whiskeys aged for 21 years and bottled at cask strength.

Jameson 21 Years was initially matured in ex-bourbon and oloroso sherry seasoned casks at the Midleton Distillery for 18 years, then blended and re-casked into freshly emptied ex-bourbon barrels for an additional three years. These casks were then married with additional pot still whiskeys that had fully matured for over 21 years in first fill oloroso sherry seasoned wine casks and bottled at a cask strength of 57.2% ABV.

Master Distiller Kevin O’Gorman describes Jameson 21 Years as having a nose “Rich in wood spices with sweet notes of toffee and dairy fudge, while the dried fruits add extra layers of flavour with hints of dates and fig, all wonderfully in balance with the intensity of the pot still spices and floral grain notes.” The palate is “Robust and complex with cinnamon and nutmeg spice to the fore accompanied by the oak’s soft tannins and silky nature of the pot still spirit. Dark berry fruits work in tandem with sweet vanilla and chocolate creating a medley of flavours intertwined with a sherry nuttiness and gentle touches of leather.” It concludes with a “Lingering finish with the fruits slowly fading into the background, leaving the oak and spices to have the final say.”

Jameson 21 Years is limited to 2,301 bottles and will be available to purchase via online ballot at an RRP of €310 (~$355). The ballot opens to the general public at 2pm Irish Saving Time (IST) on Thursday, November 11th and will close at 6pm IST on Wednesday, November 17th, with shipping to winners taking place beginning in late November.
