Maker’s Mark Launches Wood Finishing Series 2021 Limited Release: FAE-01

Maker’s Mark Wood Finishing Series 2021 Limited Release: FAE-01

Maker’s Mark has announced the latest entry in their Wood Finishing Series with the launch of Maker’s Mark Wood Finishing Series 2021 Limited Release: FAE-01. In a first for the series, FAE-01 will be one of two complementary bourbons and will be followed with the launch of 2021 Limited Release: FAE-02 in the fall of this year.

Maker’s Mark Wood Finishing Series Limited Releases are crafted by finishing fully-matured, cask strength Maker’s Mark in secondary barrels containing proprietary wood staves. The barrels are rested in Maker’s Mark’s limestone cellar, where the cask strength bourbon interacts with the staves to develop the expressions’ unique taste profiles.

The first 2021 Limited Release, FAE-01, uses an American oak stave that is seared on one side and left raw on the other to amplify the dried fruit and oak flavors in the whisky. Each side of the FAE-01 stave draws out different flavors – the charred side offers dark leathery tobacco notes, and the raw side yields fresh fruit, the two of which come together to create intense barrel-aged fruitiness. Tasting notes describe FAE-01 as having aromas of “heavy wood, dark fruit, and tobacco,” with notes of “deep and dried dark fruits, strong tobacco, and barrel extractives” on the palate, concluding with a “creamy, lingering” finish.

Bottled between 55.15%-55.3% ABV (110.3-110.6 proof), Maker’s Mark Wood Finishing Series 2021 Limited Release: FAE-01 will be available beginning in March and carries a suggested retail price of $59.99 for a 750 mL bottle.
