Irish Distillers Relaunches Blue Spot Irish Whiskey

Irish Distillers is relaunching Blue Spot Irish Whiskey, the youngest offering in the Spot Whiskey portfolio. The reimagined Blue Spot is a triple-distilled, single pot still Irish whiskey that’s been matured for a minimum of 7 years in a combination of Bourbon casks, Sherry butts, and Madeira casks, bottled non chill filtered and at cask strength.
Blue Spot is described as having aromas of “a light mix of pineapple, kiwi, green banana and lime zest followed by Pot Still spices, baked apple, hazelnut and toasted wood.” On the palate, “a smooth mouthfeel with a subtle mix of fruit, a hint of clove oil and cracked black pepper corns. Sweet spices, vanilla and cinnamon add to the wood’s nutty contribution.” It finishes with “a lasting and distinctly palatable balance of exotic fruits and spices.”
The Spot Whiskies used to consist of 7 year old Blue Spot, 10 year old Green Spot, 12 year old Yellow Spot, and 15 year old Red Spot. Due to dwindling stocks, all but Green Spot were discontinued in the mid-twentieth century and Green Spot lost it’s 10 year old age statement. Yellow Spot was relaunched in 2014, Red Spot followed in 2018, and with today’s Blue Spot announcement, the entire Spot Whiskey family has finally been reunited.
Blue Spot Irish Whiskey will be available in the UK, Ireland, Northern Ireland, France, Canada, and Global Travel Retail this month, with a US rollout to follow in February 2021. It carries a suggested retail price of €80/$95.
