Buffalo Trace Releases Old Charter Oak Chinkapin Oak

Old Charter Oak Chinkapin Oak

Buffalo Trace Distillery has released the fourth installment in the Old Charter Oak Series, Chinkapin Oak. The series was launched in late 2018 with the intention of exploring oak tree varietals and their impact on spirit, using barrels obtained from trees grown in different countries, climates, and soil.

For this release, Buffalo Trace obtained barrels from the Midwestern United States and filled them with its Mash #1, the same mash bill used to make Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, and several other bourbons at the distillery.

Aged for nine years, tasting notes describes Old Charter Canadian Oak as having aromas of “cherries and spearmint with hints of floral”, followed by “fresh herbs and honey” on the palate, finishing with “warm baking spices and dark chocolate.”

Bottled at 46.5% ABV (93 proof), Old Charter Oak Chinkapin Oak carries a suggested retail price of $69.99 and will be available in limited quantities beginning this month.
