Spot Whiskey Launches Green Spot 100 Year Anniversary Limited Edition
Spot Whiskey has announced the launch of Green Spot 100 Year Anniversary Edition, a limited release that pays homage to the traditional Green Spot launched in 1925 by Mitchell & Son.
For decades, the Mitchell family sent empty wine, sherry, and port casks to be filled at the Jameson Distillery, before returning them to their Dublin cellars for maturation. Each cask was marked with a daub of paint to indicate its age – green for a 10 year old whiskey. In 1925, this simple marking practice inspired the name Green Spot.
Green Spot 100 Year Anniversary Edition is a revival of the original 10 year old age statement, crafted from a marriage of bourbon, sherry, and port casks and a higher ABV of 46%.
Official tasting notes for Green Spot 100 Year Anniversary Edition follow:
Nose: Opens with decadent aromas of floral honey, coffee cake, and toffee, layered with autumnal fruits, sweet pear, blackberry, apple, and lifted by herbal notes of lemon verbena and mint. Light dustings of nutmeg add warmth and complexity.
Taste: A blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, dried fruits, and dessert-like flavours of apple crumble are layered over warming cereal notes of barley.
Finish: A rich and lasting finish, with pot still spices and orchard fruits gently lingering to the end.
Alongside the whiskey, Green Spot has partnered with sustainable paint brand YesColours and creative agency WMH&I to re-imagine its “green daub” as both a new bottle design and a bespoke Green Spot paint shade.
The Green Spot 100 Year Anniversary Edition bottle features green brushstrokes, accented with gold, that sweep across the bottle to honor the traditional hand-marked casks.
Green Spot 100 Year Anniversary Edition is available to purchase from the Midleton Distillery Collection website as a standalone bottle for €84.99 and a bundle featuring the bottle and a YesColours Green Spot paint pouch for €104.99.
