Redbreast Launches Dream Cask Oloroso Sherry Edition
Irish Distillers has announced the release of Redbreast Dream Cask Oloroso Sherry Edition, the fourth release in the limited edition Dream Cask series.
Redbreast Dream Cask Oloroso Sherry Edition is composed of four single pot still Irish whiskies which were aged for a minimum of 29 years in a combination of ex-bourbon barrels, an oloroso sherry butt, and a ruby port seasoned cask, then vatted together and left to marry in an Oloroso sherry butt. A detailed breakdown of the individual components follows:
- Cask 1 – Distilled in 1989, matured in an ex-bourbon barrel and re-casked into a ruby port cask in 1995.
- Cask 2 – Distilled in 1991, matured in a second-fill ex-bourbon barrel.
- Cask 3 – Distilled in 1991, matured in a second-fill ex-bourbon barrel.
- Cask 4 – Distilled in 1991, matured in an ex-bourbon barrel and re-casked into a sherry butt in 2011.
Bottled at 51.2% ABV, Redbreast Dream Cask Oloroso Sherry Edition is described as “a luxuriously rich Irish whiskey with notes of dried fruits, herbs and toasted oak and a complex aroma of liquorice, leather and nutmeg reminiscent of Andalusian bodegas. Luscious in flavour with notes of dark brown sugar, succulent berries and vanilla perfectly off-setting Redbreast’s trademark spices.”
Due to the highly limited nature of the Dream Cask series, interested individuals must enter a ballot on the The Redbreast Birdhouse website for the chance to purchase a bottle. The Dream Cask ballot will remain open until May 25th, when winners will be notified and given an opportunity to purchase a 500 mL bottle of Redbreast Dream Cask Oloroso Sherry Edition for €520 (~$633).
