Redbreast Launches Ballot for Opportunity to Purchase Dream Cask Ruby Port Edition

Redbreast Dream Cask 28 Year Ruby Port Cask Edition

Irish Distillers has announced the release of Redbreast Dream Cask Ruby Port Edition, the third release in the limited edition Dream Cask series and the first Redbreast expression to be fully finished in a single port cask.

Redbreast Dream Cask Ruby Port Edition is composed of four single pot still Irish whiskies which were aged for a minimum of 28 years in a combination of ex-bourbon barrels, an oloroso sherry butt, and a ruby port seasoned cask, then vatted together and left to marry in a ruby port pipe cask. A detailed breakdown of the individual components follows:

  • Cask 1 – Distilled in 1989, matured in an ex-bourbon barrel and re-casked into a ruby port cask in 1995.
  • Cask 2 – Distilled in 1991, matured in a second-fill ex-bourbon barrel.
  • Cask 3 – Distilled in 1991, matured in a second-fill ex-bourbon barrel.
  • Cask 4 – Distilled in 1991, matured in an ex-bourbon barrel and re-casked into a sherry butt in 2011.
    • Bottled at 51.5% ABV, Redbreast Dream Cask Ruby Port Edition is described as “a smooth and silky Irish whiskey with notes of assertive spices, dark chocolate and cinnamon which slowly reveal a luxurious layer of sweet ripe plums and exotic fruits reminiscent of the signature Redbreast style. The ruby port cask finish further contributes notes of raisins, sultanas and berries, adding an extra layer of depth and complexity.”

Due to the highly limited nature of the Dream Cask series, interested individuals must enter a ballot on the The Redbreast Birdhouse website for the chance to purchase a bottle. The Dream Cask ballot is live as of today and will remain open until 14:59 (GMT +1) on June 2nd, when winners will be notified and given an opportunity to purchase a 500 mL bottle of Redbreast Dream Cask Ruby Port Edition for €490 (~$530).

Although Dream Cask Ruby Port sounds wooow, this ballot I will unfortunately skip. I’ll try to get some sample 🙂

It’s a little pricey for a 500 mL bottle, but if it’s anywhere near as good as the Redbreast 27 YO Port it will be quite the experience!
